Bob and Nancy,
It was grand to meet you and I am so glad that you enjoyed your visit. A great start for these clans is George Macdonald Fraser’s book “The Steel Bonnets”. Chris and Claire Irving
Thank you so much for the nice lunch and tour. This was my first tour with Clan Irwin. I hope I can visit again sometime. Good luck with keeping this wonderful site intact. Thanks again from Trudy Irwin Walker.
I am a descendant, living Downunder. I grew up looking at paintings of the tower on my grandfather’s mantlepiece, and came to see it a couple of years ago on a trip to the UK. Claire very kindly gave us a cup of tea. She was charming and most welcoming. Visiting Bonshaw was one of the highlights of our travels. I just wanted to let you know how great this website looks and how beautiful the property is. I think the wedding hosting is a fabulous idea and I wish you all the very best.
My great-grandfather was John Fleming Irving and I was told as a child he was born @ Bonshaw Towers. He came to the United States in the 1800’s & was a physician. He received his medical degree in the United States. My husband & I hope to tour Scotland in October. I received “The Holly Leaf Chronicle & was delighted to read that there are accommodations at Bonshaw Tower. Could you possibly e-mail me the information or mail it.
We are very excited about this trip, as we haven’t been to Scotland before. Thanking you in advance.
Sincerely,
Heather Scott

Thank you again Chris, for the tour on Monday. It was definitely the highlight of our term here in Scotland and we look forward to returning. The rich history that surrounds the homeland of our ancestors is beautifully stunning. And to see so much of it in person was richly enlightening.
Thank you also for the book, “The Irvings of Bonshaw”. It was a delight to read and we will be recommending it to all of our “Clan” members in Kentucky and other states. I enjoy reading history, especially the of the Western Marches in the ancient Borders. It was a joy to meet you and to visit.
Gratefully;
Daniel Irvin
Hello again Chris. I hope you are well.
You may remember that I sent you an e-mail in early August this year to inform you that my wife and I were in the area, passing through from Ireland on the way back to our home in France , and that I had hoped that it might be possible to visit Bonshaw Tower.
Alas, you were away from home. You sent a note of apology inviting us to try again sometime.
I thought you might be interested to know that my family-s connection with Bonshaw appears , now, to have been confirmed by James Irvine’s latest analysis. He wrote last week to say ” But what I can say now, following your Pack test, is that you do clearly descend from the Bonshaw line of the Border Irwins”
and the connection seems quite close. My Kit Number is : 340760 and the SNP branch is BY3699 which seems very close to the end of your lane.
I wonder if you could recommend a tartan which I could use for celebratory ties for my two young sons.. and perhaps a shawl for my good-lady?
Aye, and hoping to arrange a visit sometime next year perhaps.

Dear Richard,
What good news. If you contact the Clan Irwin Association for Irving of Bonshaw tartan that will work out quickest and cheapest for you. We are all out of tartan stock right now. It would be great to see you all next year. We are doing B&B as well these days if you are interested.
Yours Aye
Chris
